I Will Follow You

Today's breakfast is bee hoon soup with shark's meat and veggies. The shark's meat wasn't nice, as hard as chicken breast.

Lunch Bento

I made a lunch bento and a snack bento for hubby's lunch and afternoon tea. The lunch bento has a chicken drumstick and mushrooms cooked in soy sauce, a fish fillet, some veggies and baby carrots. I learnt to do the crab from some website. Then I came up with two crabs. Obviously the one with dimples is me and another crab is my hubby. The black sesame seeds represent our foot prints. ^_^ The roasted sesame seeds represent the soil that the plants grow on.

The female crab is singing:

I will follow you
Follow you wherever you may go
There isn't an ocean too deep
A mountain so high it can keep me away

I must follow you
Ever since you touched my hand I know
That near you I always must be
And nothing can keep you from me
You are my destiny

I love you, I love you, I love you
And where you go I'll follow, I'll follow, I'll follow
You'll always be my true love, my true love, my true love
From now untill forever, forever, forever

I will follow you
Follow you wherever you may go
There isn't an ocean too deep
A mountain so high it can keep
Keep me away, away from my love

I love you, I love you, I love you
And where you go I'll follow, I'll follow, I'll follow
You'll always be my true love, my true love, my true love
From now untill forever, forever, forever

I will follow you
Follow you wherever you may go
There isn't an ocean too deep
A mountain so high it can keep
Keep me away, away from my love

And where you go I'll follow

This was where the rest of the artificial crab meats went after I cut out the shapes I wanted. I made a hole in the rice, placed the crab meats and covered with the rice nicely.

There are peanut butter sandwiches cut into rabbit and love shapes, cincau, a cherry tomato and plum in the bento.

Bento No.10

It's the tenth bento today. I don't really have much idea to do the next bento. It's very hard to prepare food that he can easily nibble at and the food can be kept until afternoon tea at around 4pm.

I gave him a pandan mantou (chinese steamed bun) with butter spread today. The mantou has a fierce face with sharp teeth. I got this idea from a bento blog and thought I wanna try it out. So, no smiley face in his bento today.

I also gave him cincau (grass jelly) which are cut into aeroplane and car shapes. When I cut the cincau, I was thinking "hmm, next time I could use this way to teach my kids about the types of vehicles and other things like animals, numbers and alphabets. For example, if they learn A, B and C during that week, I will then cut the food into those alphabets to help them to refresh what they've learnt when they eat their food". Can this make learning more fun?

I also included a few edamame skewers for him. There isn't any fruits in his bento today because he finished all the fruits that I cut last night! I only had two bites on a piece of apple. This morning, I didn't have much time to cut him fruits because I woke a bit late >_< I wanted to give him more cincau because the weather is so hot and cincau is thought to have the cooling properties but I just don't have bigger food cup. I need to buy bigger food cups. I just realized the wheel on the car shaped cincau was misplaced a bit after i transferred the photo to my laptop :)

Bento No.9

Went to Cold Storage on Monday night with my hubby and he bought himself these croissants and hams. Toasted the croissant and heated the ham. The croissant was then topped with veggies, the ham, some mayonnaise and chilli sauce, and some tomatoes. So, this was his breakfast this morning with the ingredients he bought and a cup of honey drink.

Today's bento consists of three sushi with bacon, two bacon enoki roll, a piece of cheese, few pieces of oranges, a cup of blueberries, a tomato and a carrot. These are more than enough for an afternoon tea. I think he should have a light dinner tonight.

The cheese was cut into a teddy bear shape, added details on the ears and hair with cheddar cheese to make the face look more 2D. I also made three small flowers to add on the sushi and the flower shaped carrot to make the bento more colourful.

Pre-pregnancy Checkup

My hubby and I both feel that it's time for us to go to another stage, having a baby. We planned to conceive some time around June this year. As I remember that I have never been vaccinated against the rubella virus which is a very important immunity for a pregnant lady, we decided to consult a gynae and find out what other checkup we should do. I'm worried about it because if one is not immune to rubella, and the fetus happens to be exposed to the rubella virus during pregnancy, it can cause disabilities to the baby.

So, after deciding on which gynae, we went for the checkup few weeks ago. Questions that the gynae asked include "Have you had the rubella vaccine?", "Did you have chicken pox before?”. Chicken pox is another concern. I never had chicken pox! If you catch chicken pox during your pregnancy, there're risks including chicken pox syndrome, to the baby.

My checkup includes breasts check, pap smear test, ultrasound on uterus, urine test and a blood test to detect my antibodies while hubby only need to do a urine and blood tests. The gynae said I probably need to get the rubella and chicken pox vaccines if I'm really not vaccinated against rubella and I never had chicken pox like I told him. However, he needs to see my blood test report before he gives me the vaccines. We're asked to go back in June for the blood test results. Also, we're told that we should wait for at least three months after those vaccines are taken before we try to conceive. Our initial plan to get conceived in June obviously have to be postponed to September or October, the earliest, as we only get the blood test reports end of June and then counting 3 months from June. :'( I can't wait to have a baby!

So, what is a pap smear test? It's a test where the gynae inserts a speculum to your vagina to help access to the cervix, and then a small brush is inserted to collect the cells. The gynae then put those cells on a glass slide to send for examination under the microscope. The whole procedure didn't cause any pain or discomfort to me. However, I felt a mild cramping afterward.

Hip Hop Pao

Woke up at 7am to quickly steam the paos (buns) and boil a pot of water to cook the carrots and edamame. Then, I fried this sardine noodle for him.

Three mini pandan lotus paos, tomatoes, carrots, edamame, a small cup of blueberries, and jellies

I used the crabstick to make the hair but hubby said it looks like the do-rag that those hip hop rappers wear. One of the well known rappers that I know during my school time was Eminem :) "May I have your attention please? May I have your attention please? Will the real Slim Shaddy please stand up? I repeat, will the real Slim Shady please stand up” Haha! But don't ask me who's the famous rapper now because I don't know. So old and outdated already (>_<) Back to the bento, since the hair I intended to make looks more like a do-rag to him, it's named as the hip hop pao. He then left to work at 8am sharp with his hip hop pao bento. That’s how the day starts.

It’s The Eggs That Matter

The breakfast for this morning was two half boiled eggs, two slices of toasted bread smeared with margarine and a glass of orange juice.

I don't have kaya in my house so I decided to add some sugar to go with the margarine but I only realized that I didn't add the sugar after I cut the breads into small pieces for him to dip in the eggs easily. He said the breads still taste nice without the sugar. I know! Because he loves half boiled egg so much. As long as there're eggs, the breads would still taste good even if I had just given him two slices of plain toasted breads.

Today's bento is four mini sandwiches with fish floss as the fillings, some cucumbers and tomatoes, a strawberry and a jelly in the orange mould. Added some details on the sandwich with cheese, carrot and nori. The carrot on top of the eye is actually a crown :) You can tell that there's a male and a female tomato in the bento from the caps they're wearing ^_^

Bento No.6

Crawling out of bed.

Me: Bie, you want spaghetti?
Big Kid: Yes.

So, went to have the ingredients washed and cut. 3 white mushrooms, 3 cherry tomatoes and some holland peas. I think the portion was enough to keep him full until his lunch time.

Colourful spaghetti garnished with love shaped carrot :)

He has his bento today too! I can’t believe I make it throughout the week (except on Sunday). He said there’s so much improvements in this bento. So, here I present to you the last bento that I make for this week.

Onigiri, sausages, edamame, carrot, tomato and strawberry

The hello kitty onigiri looks weird right? That’s because I haven’t invested in a hello kitty mould yet. That’s actually made using the bunny mould so the hello kitty’s ears look so long. Next to the hello kitty is a frog. Does it look like a frog? I don’t know why I didn’t make any bunny face with the bunny mould but hello kitty and frog =D There’s also a teddy bear’s onigiri. The sausages are cut into a fish and penguin shapes.

Another part in the bento are some veggies and fruits. A few edamame (green soybeans) skewers, tomatoes, carrots and a strawberry. Can you spot a ladybird in the bento? I prepared some salt in the small orange container for him to sprinkle on the veggies if he wants.

He told me that he shows off his bentos to his colleagues everyday =_=`` Why he acted like a kid har? Because he likes the bento so much?

Here’s my breakfast. I didn’t cook the same breakfast as his for myself because I just had spaghetti for dinner last night.

Smoked salmon sandwiches and some veggies

I smeared margarine on the bread then put some seaweed, smoked salmon and mayonnaise. What did I do with the leftovers after cutting the small sandwiches out? I keep them in the fridge and planning to feed the fish at the fish pond in my condo :)

Boxing Chickens

I packed boxing chickens in hubby’s bento today. He’s surprised to know that I’ve prepared him boxing chickens because I always nag him for eating too much meat. But since he hasn’t been eating fast food like KFC and burgers, it’s fine to give him two little chicken drummettes.

Big Kid: Har, you give me boxing chickens ar?
Me: Yes!
Big Kid: You’re so good to me.
Me: ...
Big Kid: You always don’t want me to eat meat but now you’re giving me boxing chickens. You really treat me so good.
Me: ... (Did he mean I was bad all the while when I was just concern about his eating habit?)

I know he loves to eat boxing chickens and I didn’t make him the deep fried ones because firstly, I think that is too oily and secondly, I’m just a beginner in cooking and I don’t like to deep fry. The drummettes would probably end up frying me (>_<) So, it’s safer to pan fry the drummettes, haha!

Boxing chickens, broccolis and some fruits

Bak Kut Teh noodle

I separated the noodles from the soup after the noodles were cooked because hubby’s still taking his own sweet time in the shower. I poured in the soup when I thought he should be out from shower but he’s a bit slow. The noodles soaked up the soup a little but he said the noodles weren’t too soft. Just nice!

Few days ago,  I read in newspaper that instant noodles are bad for health. I always know that instant noodles are no good for the health because they aren’t packed with nutrients and there’s too much MSG in that small packet of ingredients. Moreover, we all know that instant noodles are coated with wax so that the noodles do not stick to one another.

Knowing that there aren’t any nutrients in instant noodles but only flour and fats, I added some broccolis and mushrooms. However, I forgot the important step to remove the wax which is harmful to our body! I read about the right way to cook instant noodles but did I just forget about it or I ignore it?

We should cook the noodles in a pot of boiling water and boil another new pot of water at the same time. When the noodles are cooked, throw away that pot of boiling water which contains the wax and put the noodles into the new pot of boiling water and turn off the gas. Then, add in the packet ingredients. I just googled and found that it takes at least 3 days for our body to digest the noodles coated with wax and consuming too much of them can cause cancer.

OMG! What did I just give my hubby for breakfast? I will not be lazy again to take the necessary steps to stay healthy.

Sunday with My Two Girls

Last Sunday, my hubby and I stayed at home for the two girls. No, I don’t have babies but these two daughters of mine are my pet dog and parrot, Gigi and Becki. We treat them like our own daughters. I believe we’ll continue to treat them as good as now even when we’ve our own babies. Our goals that Sunday were to give Becki a shower and make her a new perch.

This is Becki getting out from the cage

First time on blogspot, so Becki says: Hi!

This is the daughters’ mum >_< Eating oranges before doing her job
Gigi’s wondering if mummy could share with her
Mummy: No way! You’ve your own food. Later mummy gives biscuits.

This is Becki enjoying her shower during a hot Sunday

While everyone’s attentions were on Becki, Gigi was jealous. As usual, she would go to a corner and keep a jealous eye over us from far. This is her! She’s rather cute behaving like that.

Gigi being jealous, suntanning at the same time

Gigi with her smiley face

As soon as we’re done with showering Becki and let Becki be on her own, Gigi’s back to being a happy girl, giving us her biggest smile.

We noticed the flight feathers on Becki’s wings had grown so much when she flipped her wings during the shower. So, it’s time to have them clipped so that she won’t fly away. Clipping her feathers is not cruel but of love. Becki was hand-fed by us when she was still a baby so she will not possibly survive on her own if she flies away. We only cut adequate feathers to prevent her from flying away. So, she still have sufficient feathers to land herself properly in the event that she falls from her perch.

Becki having a ‘haircut’

Before the invention of pens, people write with quill feathers. I’ll have a lot if I lived in the olden days :p

Becki after shower, the grey is so grey and the red is so red. I mean the colors of the feathers were so dull before the shower, hehe

Becki at the balcony

Gigi’s all happy again when I groomed her

Gigi then got her treats

Taking care of pets are not easy. You need to devote some of your time to them. Be prepared to spend time taking good care of them including grooming, feeding, cleaning their poops, playing with them and etc. We’ve family and our circle of friends but in their world, they have only us.

Bento No.4

It's another day! I was very sleepy this morning but still I had to crawl up from my bed because my hubby is not feeling well this few days and I don't want him to just have some fried bee hoon bought from the roadside on his way to work. I wanna make sure he's eating well.

So he had cheese sandwich, scrambled egg with tomato and some fruits. While he's eating his breakfast, I then prepared a bento for his afternoon tea.

A few chickens and capsicums skewers, tomatos, cucumbers and some grapes

The bento definitely looks nicer with the cute picks especially the panda picks. I hope this bento brightens up his day as he's been frowned with his works these days.

It's Wednesday

This morning, I managed to wake and make breakfast for my hubby. He had oat crackers sandwiches with tuna and smoked salmon. Tuna and salmon are highly nutritious food. They are rich in protein and good fats (omega 3). They are also said to be the 'brain food' as they contain high nutrients (omega 3 fatty acids) for healthy brain. I should give him and myself more fish since we're very forgetful recently.

I still prepare a bento for him today. It's the third one! Wow! Will I do it for this whole week?

Wholemeal bread with tuna, chicken nuggets and oranges (I managed to squeeze in 2 slices)

Hubby will not work OT tonight because he's not feeling well so I'm going to cook dinner instead of eating out. So, that means I make him 3 meals today, breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner. This wife has got improvements wor ^_^

Oh ya, I received the bento-making tools this morning. It's fast. I bought online and made the payment yesterday then, they're delivered today! Thanks to BentoCraft!

"I want eyes"

After seeing hubby loved the bento I made for him so much, I then make another one for him today. I am not sure my passion for making bento will last how long but at least it keeps me busy for now.

In his first bento, I put a pair of eyes on each of the sausages with nori. But I didn't make any eyes on his sushi in this second bento. He insisted he wanted eyes and he dug in the kitchen for some herbs and made those eyes and noses/mouths himself. Acted like a kid. I guess he's my big kid now whom I have to take care of.

This is my first time making sushi. So I just made the easiest sushi from the ingredients I had in the fridge.

My big kid starts to request that he wants this he wants that in his tomorrow's bento. =_=" By the way, he just bought me those bento-making tools online last night. So I have no excuses not making him bentos then :) Okay, I'll try my best.

Bento actually means lunch box in japanese but I'm making him this for his tea time. So I shall not call it bento. Hmm, snack box? Well, let's just call it bento. Easier!

Hubby's Tea Time

I had always wanted to create a blog but I had no idea what to blog about. Today, I have something to share so I decide to start a blog.

I woke up this morning preparing a bento for my hubby to bring to work as he always says he tends to feel hungry at around 4-5pm. I'm a newbie in bento-ing so it's just a simple one. He loves it anyways.

Cheesy sausages (the sausages are supposed to look like octopus, do they?) and some oranges

Hubby has been working overtime recently so we don't have much time together. I only see him early in the morning before he goes to work (if i could wake and make him breakfast) and late at night (if I'm still awake). I guess he'll think of me when he enjoys his bento?!?! :) Yes? No? I miss you :(

If I continue to make him bentos, I think I can make nice and cute bentos for my kids next time. Haha!
